Missions
Summit Presbyterian Church’s Mission ministries consist of general missions, seasonal missions, and foreign missions. These missions include community meals, Stafford Emergency Relief through Volunteer Efforts (SERVE), Campus Christian Community, school supplies, coats for kids, stockings for the Salvation Army, White Gifts for Christmas, Rebuilding Together, and Students Helping Honduras. If you feel so called, donate your time and talent to missions.
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!'” Isaiah 6:8
Stephen Ministry
On September 18, 2016, Summit Presbyterian commissioned its first class of Stephen Ministers and the congregation helped to celebrate their call to worship. After attending over 40 hours of training, our Stephen Ministers are equipped and ready to begin their journey and are prepared to provide caring ministry to anyone going through a difficult time.
Is life more than you can handle alone right now? Are you in need of a caring, Christian who will listen, empathize, encourage, pray, provide confidential care, and patiently support you as you work through a crisis or difficult time?
Do you know someone, perhaps a friend, neighbor, coworker, colleague, or relative, who could benefit from this type of care? If yes, please contact Pastor Dan for more information at (540) 659-2306 or office@summitpresbyterianchurch.org. You may also contact Heidi Boyd-Rice at 703-321-6894 or sixbusyboyds@yahoo.com.
Community Meal
Community Meal is a mission that was started in the early days of Summit’s presence in the Stafford community. It continues to serve meals once a month to local Stafford residents! Our team prepares, cooks and delivers meals on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Currently, there are 13 families ranging from 2 to 8 people per family. There have been as many as 83 meals prepared in one morning!
Many thanks to the dedicated workers who shop for, prepare, and deliver the meals each month. The team begins preparing and assembling these meals at 8:30 a.m. By 10:00 a.m., the meals are packed and ready for the drivers to deliver by 11:00 a.m. If you are interested in assisting, please contact Jane Clark at 540-940-2020 or Pat Rossell at 540-659-4288.
Rebuilding Together
Rebuilding Together is a project which works on and renovates homes in need of repair. This past April, a group of people from Summit, and Friends of Summit, worked on the home of a young couple. The team repaired plumbing and drywall, cleaned gutters, pressure washed the siding, repaired light fixtures, and performed other electrical work. There were approximately 12 volunteers, and we greatly appreciate their efforts!
In addition to larger projects, the team has a handyman service to assist with home repairs. There are many who participate in these efforts. Many special thanks to Larry Nelson and Jeff Garret for their hard work. Please call the church office or Larry Nelson if you are interested in participating.
Christmas White Gift
White Gift is a wonderful holiday mission in which Summit has been participating for many years. There are local families in need who would not be able to afford Christmas were it not for this annual project. Each year, the Mission Team obtains a list of families and their Christmas wishes from Social Services. A Christmas tree is placed in the church Narthex, and volunteer decorate the tree with tags for each gift item requested by the families. Members and Friends of Summit choose a tag (or 2!) and purchase the items listed on the tags. The gifts are brought to church on a designated Saturday prior to Christmas. The gifts are wrapped in white paper as a reminder of Christ and his unconditional love during the holiday season, hence the name “White Gift”. In past years, we have supplied Christmas presents and meals to as many as 18 families. Keep watch for announcements regarding the White Gift Project in November.
